| “Verizon never committed to bringing FiOS to its entire local-phone service area. It has introduced FiOS in 16 states, but the deployment is concentrated on the East Coast, and Verizon is selling off most of its service areas in the Midwest and on the West Coast. Its stated goal was to make FiOS available to 18 million households by the end of 2010, and it’s on track to reach or exceed that.” |
Where’s the surprise? AT&T announced U-Verse, not because it cared about broadband but because it wanted to buy AT&T, then BelllSouth… Verizon wanted to buy MCI, Alltel and dump Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont — (and Hawaii and other GTE holdings.)This was never about upgrading infrastructure but rolling out a ‘cable’ product… and now that they got what they wanted, of course they’ll slow down/stop… Who’s going to make them do anything? The FCC? Congress? (stop laughing.) |
